Why I built this
My dad has always had stories. The kind you hear at Thanksgiving, or catch in pieces when something reminds him of something else. For years I told myself I’d sit down and really ask him — get it all, properly — and for years I didn’t.
What finally moved me wasn’t just the stories. It was hearing the emotion in his voice when he talks about his own childhood, and the pride in it when he talks about his children. That’s not something you get from a page. I didn’t just want his story written down — I wanted to be able to hear him tell it.
That’s the whole idea behind Evertold. My dad has been the very first person to use it — every chapter, every feature, tested on him before anyone else ever saw it.
There’s one thing I love most about it. My three-year-old son can record a question in his own voice and send it to his grandfather — and my dad gets to actually hear him ask it. Not a text message someone typed for him. His grandson’s real voice, asking him something. And then my dad gets to answer him back, in his own.
That’s what this is for.
